At DSAG

We thought long and hard about coming up with a challenge that would be fun and also provide people with a variety of different directions in which they could take the challenge. We hope you have fun with this and can't wait to see how the challenge inspires you!

Challenge Theme: All About Me (yes, you have to scrap a page about yourself!)

Subject of Layout: Scrap about something you inherited from a family member (it can be a physical attribute ex: smile, nose, funny laugh, a personality quirk ex: sense of humor, fearlessness, a talent ex: sewing, great athlete, a certain passion ex: love for animals, love of gardening, etc.) You are NOT limited to these examples; if you can figure out something....anything....that you inherited from another family member and you can scrap about it....GO FOR IT!!

Rules/Requirements:

1. The layout must have two photos (it can have more). The two required photos must be one photo of yourself and a second photo that illustrates the "thing" that you inherited. For example, if you inherited your mother's cooking ability one photo must be of yourself and the second photo could either be a photo of your mom cooking, or a photo of a great meal, or even a photo of a favorite recipe or cookbook. As long as the second photo helps to illustrate the "thing" that you inherited it works.

2. The layout must have a title that uses one of the following:
-a mix of different fonts (at least 2) or
-a mix of different alphas (at least 2) or
-a mix of fonts and alphas (at least 1 font and 1 alpha)

3. The layout must including journaling explaining what the inheritance is

4. Your layouts must be posted in NDISB's ADSR 6 gallery.

At Sunshine Studio Scraps

This year's theme is Family so here is our challenge:
What does family mean to you?

Think about the question, your answer, & create a layout using it. Simple, right?

Well... you're not getting off that easy....

Your Answer has to be in the Title of your layout.
Somewhere on your layout have either the question written out "What does family mean to me?" or you may also use "Family = (your answer)"

Example:
Somewhere on my page I have the question written out "What does family mean to me?" My title is "Drama"
So I've used the question and answered it. My answer is my title.
So then I make my layout about a moment when that particular word comes in, when something happened that I had to deal with Drama with my family (who doesn't have family drama... lol)

Photos are optional since there may not be a particular moment for it or you didn't want to take a photo while dealing with something such as Drama

That's not all! Now here's some additional rules. You may choose TWO out of the FIVE options. You MUST use at least TWO of them on your layout, any two. You can always use more than 2 if you want.

Use at least 2 different alphas for your title
Use at least 3 pattern papers
Use at least 3 solid papers
Use at least 2 different fonts in your journaling
Make a list of the reasons why you answered with that word (your title)

Example using same answer as above: Drama
1. Disagreements
2. Opening mouth...insert foot (what family member doesn't say something they shouldn't have said?..haha)
3. .... and so on

Let us know in your credits which of the two options you chose to use.

Mom and Dad try to establish order, but the game
generally ends with lots of giggles as the fish
are thrown wildy into the air.

In March of 2009 your Grandma & Grandpa Schwab got you and mom airplane tickets to come visit them in Idaho. It was your very first airplane ride and you did so well! You were wowed by the large airplane terminal in Salt Lake City - so much was going on! At the end of our flight we waited and asked to have your picture taken with the pilots. We took so long getting off the plane that your Grandma became quite worried and almost ran out onto the tarmac to come find us. She would have done so if they had let her.

Peekaboo Family Inspirational Challenge - scrap a page about a family member that has inspired you.
Our Challenge is a "Peekaboo Family Inspirational Challenge". The goal is to scrap a page about a family member that has inspired you.

1. Choose two background papers, one for the very back and one for the front layer.
Re-size the front paper so that the back paper shows through. Either have the front paper the same size smaller all around
or rotate the front paper so the back paper shows through.

2.Choose one photo for your LO and crop it to a 3" by 3" image or about a 900 pixels by 900 pixels image.
Place this either in the center of the page or somewhat off the center if you choose.

3. Use your shape tool to add at least three shapes of ANY shape above your front paper layer
as in a flower, a star, a circle, square or heart or any other shape you wish.
Select the shape on the shape layer with your magic wand tool and delete
from the front paper layer to show your background paper layer underneath in the shapes you cut out.
Make sure to add a good shadow to this front paper layer to see the cutouts.

4. Journal about someone in your family that is an inspiration to you.
It May be someone who gave you good advice or someone you look up to.
Journal between 25 and 50 words about this family member.

5. Cluster around your photo and on your page to complete the LO. Add shadowing and a title, with or without an alpha.
Adding a date if you choose to.

Welcome to Polka Dot Plum's ADSR Humpty Dumpty Challenge. The designers here at Polka Dot Plum created this plum gorgeous template, a really unique layout for you racers to use, and then our kids got a hold of it. Yes, 5 minutes away to answer the phone, and this is what was left of a beautiful layout. Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to take this template and put it back together again. Now, how you do that will be entirely up to you and your partner. Each team must take these template parts and create 2 entirely different layouts(one from each of you). Each piece must be used at least once, and you are welcome to resize, recolor, transform, use as a clipping mask, but the basic shape must still be there. The grey "photo spots" do not necessarily need to hold the pictures. You may also add anything else you feel fits your artistic vision. These come as a layered PSD file and separate png files, so any program should be able to use it. We can't wait to see what you ADSR creative geniuses create for us!

Challenge 9 is found at Oscraps

The first step of the challenge is to look at the color wheel. You and your partner must choose opposing colors on the wheel, so for example, if you pick blue, your partner must use orange. It should be the predominant color in the layout but it does not have to be the only color used.

The second step is incorporate this quote in some way.“Creativity is inventing, experimenting, growing, taking risks, breaking rules, making mistakes, and having fun.” - Mary Lou Cook
You can use any part of this quote as your inspiration. For example, you could make a layout about growing. You could make a layout about breaking the rules, etc. You can use any part of the quotes or words from the quote. The quote itself does NOT have to appear on your page.

The third step is to include the following:You MUST include paint. This item is mandatory.Then, pick 7 more from this list:

A Fastforward Challenge found at Elemental Scraps

In order to allow as much creative license as possible, we have very few stipulations about what you need to use on your layout, but of course there are a few.

- Your layout must contain journaling. Whether you choose for it to be 1 line of journaling, or an entire page of journaling, is up to you.

- Somewhere in your journaling or title it must say "someday". If you want to make the title 'Someday', that's fine. If you would rather make your title something else completely and just mention 'someday' in the journaling, that works too. Even if you happen to have a 'someday' word art you want to use, that's fine as well! As long as we can see 'someday' on your page somewhere, it counts!

- We love elements here at Elemental Scraps, so of course we would love to see some on your page. At least 10 of them! But, use your creativity! If you want to use 10 pieces of ribbon and no other elements, that's fine! If you pick one button, 3 staples, 2 flowers, 3 ribbons and a frame, that works too. If in doubt, feel free to add more.

- I am currently obsessed with tone on tone papers. So, I'd like the background of your page to be a tone on tone patterned paper. If you don't have any tone on tone papers in your stash, you can use the one below. Otherwise, tone on tone paper you already have will work.

Welcome to ADSR! Whoot, we at Scrappity-Doo-Dah are so excited to be your host.

For this challenge you have reached a ROADBLOCK. Huh? What does that mean you ask? Well, this means that only one of you may complete this challenge.

Are you ready for this challenge? It's easy-peasy, NOT!

Theme: Scrap Yourself!

Directions:
1. Select 2 papers, solid/solid, solid/pattern, pattern/pattern.
2. Lay your first paper so that if covers the entire workspace.
3. Take the second paper insert it into your LO and decrease the size so that the paper is slightly smaller than the bottom layer.
4. Shadow the top layer.
5. Select a photo of you when you were younger and another one of you taken within the past year.
6. Photos should be 4 x 6. They can be vertical or horizontal. They can be color, sepia, or black/white.
7. Place the younger version of you in the top right quadrant of your layout.
8. Frame it.
9. Place the most recent photo of you in the lower right hand quadrant of your layout.
10. Frame it.
11. Select the following number of elements and cluster the areas around these photos.
Buttons - 4
Flowers - 4
Leaf//Leaves - 2
Heart shapes - 2
String / Twine - 2
Glitter/Bling - 2 (If you have glitter on a flower or other element, you can not count it towards your glitter/bling requirement)
Metals - 4 (this can be staples, keys, brads etc... it must be obvious)

12. Type up 10 words to describe yourself. They can be in any font, as long as its legible, and would prefer they be positives about you.
13. Tuck these words near your clustering -- they must be visible and not hidden by elements.

We would like you to do a layout that includes selective colouring.
Our requirement is that your layout has a focal photo, and that photo has some selective colouring in it.

We would also like to see some journaling. Scrapbooking is about sharing experiences, and we'd like to hear a little about those experiences. So we ask that you include some journaling, at least 20 words worth. And no, captions, titles or dates don't count towards your 20 words. Let's have some fun with the journaling, playing with colour to highlight, or using tags or something to give selective emphasis to your journaling. Just put a selective focus on a couple of your journaling words in some way. Be creative!

Speaking of dates, we want to see them. Half a century from now, when I'm long gone, I'd like people be able to look at my layouts and know at least when stuff happened. We've already covered the "what" with journaling, let's tell the whole story! And not just typing the date somewhere on the page ... we know you all are closet date element hoarders out there, lets see some of those fun and funky elements! Show us when the event was, when you journaled, share a date or two with us!

Welcome to Season 5 of the Amazing Digi Scrapping Race! We're excited to kick off the race at NDISB. To ease you back into the race, and to indoctrinate new racers, we've come up with a nice and easy challenge to get you started. Is that an oxymoron? Like jumbo shrimp? Easy challenge? In any case, we tried not to make it TOO challenging.

There are only three basic rules:

1) Your layout is about your partner. Introduce your partner to us. How you do this is entirely up to you. You can interview them, you can send them a questionnaire, you can use 5 words that best describe them, you can journal how you met for this race, or if you've been partners for years, you can make your page about a friendship that started with a crazy internet race and has since turned into so much more. The only rule is, the layout is about your partner and you need to tell us something about them.

2) You must include at least one photo of your partner. Large, small, color, b&w, of their face, back of their head, feet, whatever. But it must be a picture of your partner.

3) You must choose one layout from your partner's gallery and scraplift that as the page design for your layout. Only the placement of items is needed. You don't have to lift the colors, theme, etc. Just the overall placement of papers, elements, title and journaling.

It’s Friday the 13th and you are about to embark on your 13th challenge. You have entered…. (queue scary music) the ADSR Zone!

For this challenge, you will work together as a team to create a single two-page layout, with each of you creating one half. Because you are each completing your own half of a two-page layout, there is no need to swap files and otherwise transfer large documents (yay!)

You must collaborate on your two-page layout and it must coordinate. Both the overall design and color scheme/kit must coordinate.

Here are your assignments. It doesn't matter which team member does which assignment, but just make sure you have one of each when you're finished. Also be sure to put your journaling and your supply list in your description when you post your layout.

Hey Rachel, I don’t think I have ever really thanked you for getting me into digital scrapbooking. At first, I thought it would just be a fun hobby, something to do with my spare time, but it has come to mean a lot to me.

I’m so glad that you could be obsessed with something I’m obsessed with, just like the good ‘ol days. I love scrapbooking. I always knew how important it was to keep a journal, but it was always so hard for me. This is a much more fun way to document my life and that
of those around me.

Oh, I definitely agree. I still like to keep a journal and write the stories of my life, but I found that in my journal I tend to only document the really big occasions. With digital scrapbooking, I can not only tell stories about every-day matters, but I can add pictures - which really tell a story all on their own!

So True! I love how you can tell a story just with pictures. Sometimes that's all it needs. Then other times when you need to explain HOW the marshmellows got in his hair, there's always the journaling option. Plus I can then print them out into different books depending on how I want my memories organized. Or pop a page in a frame and give it as a gift for Grandma so she can always remember the story too.

Ha, ha! Exactly!! And now that I’m a mother, it’s so important to me that my son has a record of everything, especially things he would not remember on his own. I know personally from losing my mom so early that there are so many memories lost because they went with her. So anything she left behind is so precious to me. She kept a journal for just me that recorded my early life and it’s one of the few items that I truly treasure. Since she passed away, it has become a goal of mine to preserve any memories I can so that my children can always have a piece of me if they want it.

It seems scrapbooking is the perfect way to link past, present and future all together for the benefit of those who matter most to us....our family.

Pretend you and your team mate are sitting on a porch, sipping a cup of tea and chatting. You stumble upon the topic of storytelling, your eyes light up and you begin talking about why storytelling is so important to each of you.

Please create a layout that expresses what storytelling means to each of you. Why did you each choose this form (scrapbooking in general and/or digital specifically) to tell your stories? Why is storytelling important? How do you feel about storytelling (is it a creative outlet, way to express your words, document your family's experiences, etc.) Why are you a storyteller? This is my Challenge 11. I actually knew exactly what question I would have asked. Haha! It may seem kind of dumb to you, but when we cleaned out my mom's closet after she passed away we found out that all of her clothes were turned inside out. It still puzzles me why she would do this. If it were me, I'd say I was too lazy to turn them right side out...but my mom wasn't the lazy type. In fact, she was a little OCD and liked things done a certain way. I have pondered on it ever since.

Sorry the picture isn't so great. I only have one picture of my mom on my computer and my scanner is no good. So I had to take a picture of a picture and this is what I got.

I've known Sara since I was in second grade and know here pretty well, so I decided to ask her a TON of random questions to learn some things I didn't know. I am aware the journaling is blocked, but it's pretty darn funny just reading the bits and pieces of it. Anyway here's the whole journaling for your random reading pleasure.

I drive a Chevy Lumina * I have lots of freetime, my entire day is free . . . I don’t get paid for any of my time. Ha ha! * I recently had a dream where the word "Schwab" was another word for "penis";. (I'm not kidding- I couldn't make this stuff up if I was conscious) I was asked to spell my name at work and when I said Schwab (to get it started) I offended this guy and got in big trouble. I was so upset, I thought, you shouldn't get in trouble for spelling your own name!! * I absolutely despise cleaning. I like things clean, but not to clean them. * Ironically for cash I’ve been cleaning house for a lady here in town. I also have a photography business. * I’m a very cautious driver...sometimes too cautious. * My favorite past time is taking pictures of my family. * I would love to learn shorthand. * Being disappointed depresses me, especially when my hopes are way up. * I love love love my kid. I’m so obsessed. * Final Fantasy III is my favorite Nintendo game. * I don't think it's ever possible to know everything about someone. * Sometimes I miss being a kid. I miss the carefree ways. I wouldn't want to go through being a kid again. * I’ve never cheated on my husband, but cheat all the time at games. * I think I’m a nice person. Surprisingly people like me! * I love to eat Chocolatey things. * I’d like to tour Europe sometime and see everything I can. * My favorite flower is the yellow rose. * If I could be an animal I’d be a horse. * If I could have a super power it would be super speed! "A lot of us here at Oscraps are totally excited about the new season of American Idol...so we decided to make our own version...Scrapping Idol!

What is a Scrapping Idol, you ask?
Scrapping Idol: a scrapper that amazes, inspires, awes, and/or makes you want to be able to scrap just like them.

We all have a scrapper that makes us drool over every single layout they crank out. So, your challenge begins with going to that person's gallery and choosing a layout to scraplift. Go on...you know you want to.

Ok, got a layout in mind? Here's what you have to do to complete this stop on ADSR:

1. Scraplift a layout from your the gallery of your Scrapping Idol.

"This leg of the race is a ROAD BLOCK which means only 1 person can participate. You must choose a layout from your partners gallery and scraplift it using the following direction:

Take your chosen layout from your partners gallery and flip it either horizontally or vertically.
Now take the layout and rotate it 45 degrees.
You must use this "new" version as the sketch for your layout.
When creating your layout you must use the EXACT same number of items that your partner used in the original layout, no more, no less."

Looks like I'm going to be doing this road block. Rach and I did paper, rock, scissors to see who had to do it. First of all, let me say, paper, rock, scissors is a hard game to play through instant messanger. And secondly, Rachel CHEATED! LOL! Okay, off I go to find a LO to lift!

Sara B. Ferrin, a chick in the band,

Was one day feeling very bland.

She, of course, was a special girl,

The kind that sets your heart a-whirl.

But one weird day she had lost her smile,

She said, by golly, I’ve got to search hard.

I’ll bet I lost my smile out in the school yard.

So out she went on her hands and knees,

Low in the grass, with the bugs and bees,

But in the yard it was not to be found,

So she scratched her head and looked around

I know, said Sara, with a fourth of a grin,

If it’s not outside, then it must be in.

So she ran through the halls just shouting out loud,

“Have you seen my smile?” she asked the crowd.

Most of the folks just shook their heads,

They were all half dead, should’ve stayed in their beds.

But one smart kid knew just what to do.

So Sara B. watched as he dug in his bad,

The Art and Soul Challenge!

1. The Art of it: Your LO must have artistic flair! Literally! Your LO must have at least 3 things "artsy" and/or "altered" on it--(such as but not limited to: paint splatters, a paintbrush, paint spills, crayon doodles, goopy glitter, watercolors, canvas AND/OR altered art items such as wings on photos, art dolls, vintage doodads, ephemera, etc). You can use a different sized canvas.
You can move things around and change the overall sketch of the layout.
You can use the first layout uploaded to any gallery. One Step Closer

That's right, folks, it's almost time for The Amazing Digi Scrap Race Season 4!! This year Rachel and I have paired up and are going to participate in the race for the first time. We've signed up for the website, sent in our registration, created nifty matching avatars and blinkies (both done by Rach), and now we have a blog to display our progress. The first challenge is going to be posted on January 4th, so we're just warming up, stretching our legs, and getting ready to race.

A bit of background on us - Rachel and I both grew up in the thriving metropolis of Blackfoot, Idaho (that's the "Potato Capital of the World" mind you). We first met when we were in second/third grade and were on the same dance team. We later became best buds in seventh/eighth grade when we had the same lunch hour and worked in the lunch line together (ah, good times). We've been BFFs ever since and have a long history of friendship. We actually picked the name Bobettes based on a group we started in high school (it's still making me giggle every time I see the name). It's an intriguing story and if you're lucky we may decide to share it with you at a later date - if we can bear to have our nerdiness....uh, I mean, awesomeness completely exposed. There is actually even a third Bobette (Hey Jodi Bob!) but since this competition only accepts duos it's just going to be us this time. So that's us in a nutshell!!
